At the heart of the region, Nelson City Council is a Unitary Authority responsible for providing key infrastructure, community facilities and services, economic development and a range of regulatory functions.

 

Always striving to deliver an even better service to their community, our Capital Projects Business Unit is responsible for the delivery of the Capital works programme. The various infrastructure projects include three waters, roading, and traffic improvements, walking and cycle ways, parks, and playground installations, facilities and building upgrades.

 

We are seeking a new Team Leader Capital Projects to lead a small team of motivated and capable civil engineers and project managers responsible for the delivery of the Council’s capital and renewals programme.

 

Reporting to an empowering and commercially savvy Manager Capital Projects, you will be responsible for supporting a team to successfully manage projects delivered by external contractors. In addition to this, you will have your own portfolio of projects suited to your background, skills, and areas of interest. We value the contribution you will have to decision making across projects and process improvement as a leader within the Capital Projects Business Unit.

 

This is a great opportunity for either an experienced Team Leader looking for a new role or a Senior Project Manager looking for a career step forward. Either way, a mix of technical, financial, team leadership and relationship management skills are essential to thrive in this role. 

 

Ideally, you will have:

  • a Civil Engineer qualification or a project management qualification e.g. PRINCE2, PMP
  • a significant amount of project management experience, ideally within the infrastructure, engineering, capital works, or client side or consultancy environments
  • leadership experience
