Senior Transport Planner

  • Want to shape the future of transport in Nelson?
  • Are you passionate about sustainable and efficient transportation?
  • Join a small, professional team

About the role

It’s an exciting time to join our friendly Transport team. Nelson is at the forefront of change in the transport space. We’re proud to have the biggest proportion of people in New Zealand who cycle to school and work. We’ve also had a big uptake in public transport use, with our new electric bus service recently launched.

We’re seeking a transport planner who can make a difference to Nelson’s transport infrastructure. You’ll be sought after for your technical leadership and guidance on transport issues. From developing and delivering effective, multi-modal transport strategies, policies and plans, to ensuring our strategic goals are achieved through appropriate land development, no two days will be the same.

About you

Your excellent communication and relationship management skills will enable you to build solid relationships with key stakeholders and work collaboratively across Council, with the two other Councils at the top of the south, NZTA, and key community groups.

You may be a Transport Engineer seeking the opportunity to work more strategically, or you may be an experienced Planner with a passion for transport. Either way, you’ll enjoy using your strategic and creative thinking skills to identify and develop the best transport solutions for our city.

Excellent time management and presentation skills, political acumen, and a solutions focus mindset, are essential.

What we offer

We offer flexible working options including the ability to work some time from home, so talk to us about the kind of arrangement you’re looking for. We also offer a competitive salary, generous leave provisions, a variety of interesting work and ongoing professional development in an inclusive and supportive environment.
