Senior Planner

  • Technical resource consents expertise
  • Leadership opportunity
  • Bring your creativity

Are you an experienced Planner seeking diversity in your work and ready to take that next step in your career?  As the result of growth, we have an additional opportunity for a Senior Planner in our resource consents team, which will draw on your technical expertise (processing regional, land use and subdivision applications) and your leadership ability in a Unitary Authority context.

Our team has the unique opportunity to process a stimulating range of notified and non-notified consents ranging from waterfront and inner city apartments, comprehensive housing developments, water permits, air and coastal discharges with a significant and complex science component, hillside earthworks and subdivisions, to the more conventional resource consents. It is also a dynamic time for development in Nelson due to rapid growth and a high demand for residential land, resulting in a fast paced work environment. A key responsibility will be to co-ordinate the effective processing of subdivision consents so that our customers receive a fit for purpose service.

What makes this role even more attractive is our team culture. The sharing of knowledge and resources, and supporting each other to be successful are some of the elements we are proud of. The morning tea shouts are another! Our team consists of Graduate Planners, Planners, Senior Planners, a Principal Planner, Team Leader and a Manager, offering multiple opportunities for career advancement.

Bring your creativity as we are always looking for ways to improve what we do, to help ourselves and our customers.

To be successful in your application, a relevant qualification is required and ideally you will have solid experience as a Planner within a Unitary Authority or both regional and district Councils.  If you're not quite at a senior level yet, but have solid experience as a Subdivisions Planner and are ready to step up, please still submit your application.  You will have one direct report, so whilst experience leading or mentoring others would be an advantage, for the right person, this is a great opportunity to take your first step into people leadership.
