What we do
Me ā mātou mahi
Nelson City Council represents over 40,000 Nelsonians: from Hira in the north to Stoke in the south. We look after over 11,290 hectares of recreational reserve; manage over 265km of roads and 400km of water pipeline; operate 3 libraries – which loan over 720,000 books per year; and maintain 592 marina berths – to name just a handful of our functions. We keep the region ticking and are tasked with future proofing Nelson for generations to come.
We have a bold vision: to create New Zealand’s smartest little city. Together, we can ensure Nelson is a vibrant place where we are deeply connected with, and committed to, our natural, social and cultural environment; where clever business and innovation help us thrive; and where we enjoy living fulfilled lives in smart, sustainable communities.
Our vision, mission, purpose and values unite us: and drive our people to provide world-class services and experiences every day to our 40,000 customers.
